FPU Tennis Teams Take Out Colorado Mesa

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's and women's tennis teams took on Colorado Mesa on Monday, with the men getting revenge from a previous matchup in Colorado 4-3, followed by the women winning in a 7-0 sweep.

MEN'S MATCH
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The men's team started the day off by taking the doubles point with a 6-2 win by Ben Cronau and Joshua Wong in the No. 1 match, followed by a 7-5 win from Sven Bangert and Pablo Zubieta in the No. 3 match.
  • In singles, Bangert crusied to a 6-3, 6-1 win to give the Sunbirds a 2-0 lead, and Martin Ramirez did as well, winning 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 match to make it a 3-0 lead for FPU.
  • The Mavericks were able to get a point on the board in the No. 6 match, but Wong came up clutch in his No. 3 match to seal the win.
  • Wong came from behind in the first set to take it 6-3, but fell 0-6 in the second set, forcing a winner-take-all third set.
  • The third set was back and forth, but Wong was able to hold his serve late and take the set 7-5 and the match 3-2 to give the Sunbirds the win.
 
WOMEN'S MATCH
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was smooth sailing for the women's team, who took the doubles point when Sanne Brull and Alice Di Matteo won their No. 2 match 6-1, followed by a 6-3 victory from Alice Marques and Elise Leik in the No. 3 match.
  • Maria Borodii and Lea Falentin won their No. 1 match 6-1 for good measure heading into singles.
  • In singles, it was Di Matteo who got the second point for FPU after a 6-1, 6-1 win, and Brull followed her doubles partner with a 6-1, 6-1 win of her own to make it 3-0.
  • Leik wasn't too far behind in her No. 6 match, winning 6-0, 6-2 to give the Sunbirds a commanding 3-0 lead, and Falentin was able to seat the win after winning the No. 2 match 6-3, 6-2.
  • Marques made it 6-0 after going to three sets, winning 4-6, 6-0, 10-6, and Borodii put the icing on the cake, winning the No. 1 match 6-1, 6-2 to give FPU the sweep.
 
UP NEXT
 
Both the men's and women's teams will head to La Mirada, California, to take on Metro State Denver on Biola University's tennis courts on Wednesday scheduled for 4 p.m.
