Sunbirds Lose Both at Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific tennis teams jumped back into PacWest Conference play on Friday against Biola, with the men falling 7-0 in the first match of the day, followed by the women losing 4-3 in a match that came down to the last singles match.

WOMEN'S MATCH
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles pairings both fell, leaving the No. 2 match unfinished and giving Biola the first point of the day.
  • Biola was able to take the first singles point of the day when Sanne Brull fell 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets.
  • Lea Falentin was able to grab a point for the Sunbirds in the No. 2 match, winning the first set 6-2 and taking the second set 7-6.
  • The No. 4 match went to a third set, with Alice Marques falling 6-2 in the first set, but dominating the second set 6-1. She went down 6-2 in the third set.
  • After dropping the first set, Elise Leik was able to snag another point for FPU after winning sets two and three 6-2, 6-0.
  • Maria Borodii put on a show in the No. 1 match, knocking off No. 13 nationally-ranked Colbeyshae Emery in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Borodii trailed 5-3 in the final set before winning the last four games to win her match.
  • The match came down to the final match where Alice Di Matteo won the first set 6-2, but dropped sets two and three 4-6, 3-6 to give Biola the win.
 
MEN'S MATCH
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Martin Ramirez and Gregor Kliimask were able to take the first doubles match of the day in a 6-2 win, but the Sunbirds fell in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, giving Biola the doubles point.
  • FPU was unable to take a set in their singles matches, giving Biola the 7-0 win.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Fresno Pacific women are scheduled to host the University of Nevada on March 5 at 1 p.m. The men will be back in action on March 8 when they travel to Point Loma.
