Late goal in the 89th minute undoes FPU against CUI

FRESNO, Calif.-After gaining an edge in possession late in the second half, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-8 overall, 0-4 PacWest) conceded a goal in the 89th minute as the Concordia-Irvine Golden Eagles stole a 1-0 decision Saturday evening at Ramirez Field.

CUI held the advantage in possession and dominated set piece creation, earning nine corner kicks to FPU's 0.

But FPU had some near chances late as Joao Perez hit the top of the cross bar and Omri Schwartz had a near miss in the latter third of the match.

The Golden Eagles managed some threatening chances all evening, but Elmer Carballo was up to the task with 6 saves including a pair of sure goals had the freshman not exerted his athleticism.

CUI finally broke through in the 89th minute on a cross tapped home by Anthony Morales.

FPU had a majority of the chances in the 2nd half but the handful that CUI created were all threatening until Morales' score.

Fresno Pacific will have little rest as they travel to the Bay Area to play the Academy of Art Tuesday at 1 p.m.
