FRESNO, Calif.-The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-7 overall) fell 3-0 to the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (2-6-3 overall) Tuesday night at Ramirez Field.
The Sunbirds created more shots, including on shots goal, but a heroic display by the UC Santa Cruz keeper kept FPU out of goal all night.
FPU held a majority of the possession early on but UC Santa Cruz struck on a counter in the 30
th minute. A key substitution made a run down the right side of the pitch, crossing the ball to the far side of the box to Luca Bravo, who redirected his shot off the left post, just outside of the extending
Elmer Carballo and the ricochet carried into the net.
The scoreline remained 1-0 into halftime, but just seven minutes later, UC Santa Cruz mirrored the effort crossing the ball in front of goal and using an extra pass to setup Caleb Lee's insurance goal.
The Banana Slugs put it out of reach right before the hour mark when a long ball setup Tyler Allred for the final goal of the match.
Fresno Pacific will look to bounce back on Saturday evening when it plays host to Concordia-Irvine at 5:30 p.m. at Ramirez Field.
