BELMONT, Calif.-Three was the magic number for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (13-6 overall, 12-3 PacWest) in their sweep of the Academy of Art Urban Knights (5-19 overall, 4-11 PacWest) Saturday afternoon in Walter Gleason Gymnasium.
Three Sunbirds registered double-digit kills to propel FPU to the season sweep of the Urban Knights with both matches wrapping up in the minimum of three sets.
The Sunbirds had an early lead in set one before 9 errors caused FPU to fend off the Urban Knights in extra-points, taking the first set 26-24. Still, FPU earned a match-high 20 kills in the first set alone.
FPU tightened up the errors the rest of the way, but the second set was the most efficient as the Sunbirds tallied 16 kills at hit .314 to take the second set 25-22.
The defense closed out the match in the third set, forcing 9 errors, while the offense committed just 3 errors and the Sunbirds sealed the sweep 25-18.
Makena Ogas led the way for FPU with 14 kills and a service ace while also registering 10 digs.
Corinne Acosta and
Cambria Waites each added 10 kills while Acosta and Hughes were also in double-figures for digs as well.
Catie Speas had a team-high 16 digs while also doling out 17 assists.
Anastassiya Barakhoyeva led the Sunbirds with 19 assists.
The Sunbirds got a little bit from everyone as 6 different Sunbirds combined for 14 block assists.
Fresno Pacific will complete its road trip next weekend heading to Concordia-Irvine and Point Loma on Friday and Saturday (November 4
th and 5
th) before coming home for the final three matches of the season.
