Offense Dominates In Return Home

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (8-5-2 overall, 5-3 PacWest) turned early opportunities in a handful of goals while picking up an important trio of PacWest points in a 5-0 win over the Academy of Art Urban Knights (1-15 overall, 0-8 PacWest)

It was all FPU quickly, outshooting the Urban Knights 9-0 in the first 15:22 of the contest.

The offense continued to roll with six more shots in the next 10 minutes, including the first goal of the contest coming off the foot of Bryana Yoshida in the 26th minute, thanks to an assist from Tori De Leon.

The Sunbirds continued to pressure the Art U defense, and after six more shots, they found the net again thanks to Maluhia Kekuawela's finish in the 41st minute off the assist from Tessa Simmons, who then found the net herself in the 44th minute to make it 3-0.

The Sunbirds took the 3-0 lead into the break while outshooting the Urban Knights 24-0.

Things were a bit even in the first five minutes of the second half, with both teams getting off a shot, but FPU picked up right where they left off when they added on six more shots with De Leon scoring in the 57th minute to make it 4-0.

Less than three minute later, Mackenzie Madron found the back of the net on assists from Nadia Flores and Ariana Quintero to make it 5-0.

The Sunbirds finished with 45 shots in the match, a season-high in the PacWest. The Sunbirds own three of the top four single match shot totals in the PacWest this season.

De Leon finished the contest with 3 points, giving her 66 in her career ahead of Saturday's senior day ceremony.

Most importantly, the Sunbirds earned three points to jump back into a tie for 2nd place in the PacWest.

Fresno Pacific will have a chance to firm their hold towards the top of the conference when they host Dominican at 5 p.m. The men's contest between FPU and Dominican will be played before the women and the senior day ceremony will take place following the match honoring FPU's six seniors on the women's soccer team.
