Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

FPU Denied at Chaminade

HONOLULU, Hawai'i- Despite creating a majority of the chances, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-9-2 overall, 0-5-1 PacWest) were denied six times in a 1-0 loss to the Chaminade Silverswords (2-5-2 overall, 2-2-1 PacWest) Tuesday afternoon at Saint Louis High School.

Chaminade created a corner in the 6th minute and a high arching cross was met by an attempt at a bicycle kick by the Silverswords. The player going to ground on the attempt drew the whistle in the box and Chaminade was awarded a penalty kick.

The Silverswords scored on Owen Caba's pk to take a 1-0 lead.

Fresno Pacific created a chance at the half hour mark when Lucas Ribeiro dribbled down the left flank, cut back inside the 18' and ripped a shot towards goal. But Chaminade's keeper was there for the diving save, keeping the score line unchanged.

Marcus Silva had an opportunity to level the score line in the 41st minute on a through ball between the defenders. The strong shot was smothered by Chaminade's keeper, again, preserving the difference.

The Sunbirds had more opportunities in the second half. One of the best chances came in the 78th minute when FPU earned a free kick just outside of the 18'. Omri Schwartz ripped a curling shot towards the top left corner but was denied by a diving save.

FPU had three times the shots as their opponents in the second half and twice as many for the game, but the Silverswords received six athletic saves from their keeper Brandon Yasue, ultimately preserving the clean sheet.

Fresno Pacific will wrap up its island tour on Friday when it takes on Hawai'i Pacific at 10 p.m. (PST).
