LA MIRADA, Calif.-Playing their fifth match in 8 days, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (10-7 overall, 9-3 PacWest) fell 3-0 to the Biola Eagles (12-8 overall, 9-5 PacWest) Saturday afternoon in Chase Gymnasium.
After going five sets in four straight matches, the Sunbirds grittiness was tested again as they played the well-rested Eagles for the second time.
The Sunbirds fell behind early in the first set with Biola scoring ten of the first thirteen points. The Eagles earned set point at 24-12 but Fresno Pacific found some rhythm, scoring five straight points Biola finally took the set 25-17.
The teams were even after the first eight points of the second set, but Biola tallied six consecutive points to force a Fresno Pacific timeout.
The Sunbirds fought back in the second before falling 25-18.
Fresno Pacific played its cleanest set in the third, committing just three errors and hitting .296 but fell 25-21.
Madison Girnius led the way for FPU with 8 kills.
The Sunbirds will be back in action when they host Azusa Pacific Friday night at 6 p.m. in the Special Events Center.
