Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sunbirds Can't Overcome Early Deficit at Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – On Thursday, afternoon the Fresno Pacific women's soccer team traveled to San Rafael, Calif. to take on Dominican their second PacWest game of the season. The Sunbirds conceded a goal to the Penguins in the fourth minute, and were never able to find an equalizer.

QUOTABLE
  • "An early goal was the difference in a match that we could have had a couple of goals and earned the result," said interim head coach Jaime Ramirez. "Such is the sport that doesn't always reward opportunities created, time of possession, and energy. We did all of those and couldn't find the back of the net. I thought our defense worked well together after the early goal and gave us a chance until the end."
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (3:46) Dominican's Tanya Bills scored the game's lone goal. It was assisted by Cassidy Marquez.
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Both teams finished the game with nine shots.
    • Two of the Sunbird's shots were on target
    • Five of Dominican's hots were on target
  • No FPU player had more than one shot in the game. Bryana Yoshida and Ana Paula Fraiz had the two shots on goal.
  • Birgitta Eggertsdottir made the start in goal for FPU, finishing the game with four saves.
UP NEXT
  • Next week the Blue & Orange will return home for a pair of PacWest contests. Hawai'i Hilo comes to Fresno on Tuesday, Oct. 5 for a 5 p.m. game, and Biola will come to town for a Saturday, Oct. 9, 5 p.m. contest.
