Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sunbirds Outpaced by Seawolves

SONOMA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University men's soccer team traveled to Sonoma, Calif. for a road match against Sonoma State on Tuesday afternoon. Angel Ruelas netted his first career goal in the second half of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Seawolves outpaced the Sunbirds 4-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • (11:51) The Seawolves got on the board early when Brian Field scored off assists from Luis Diaz-Mendoza and Sean Rohane. 
  • (20:30) Hunter Johnson made a huge save when he turned away a penalty kick from the Seawolves. 
  • (22) Field and Rohan connected again, as Field snuck one past Johnson to put the Seawolves up 2-0. 
  • (50:43) Marcus Silva moved the ball to Samuel Jazo who created a chance for Ruelas, who headed the ball home to cut the lead to 2-1. 
  • (66:17) The Seawolves created separation when Timmy Phillips scored to put the team up 3-1. 
  • (84:52) SSU scored their final goal of the match when Mateo Pasqua found the back of the net.

  • Johnson five saves during the match. 
  • FPU fired nine shots, three of which came on goal. 
  • Ruelas came off the bench and played 42 minutes and converted on his only shot attempt of the match. 
  • Alejandro Blazquez put a shot on goal in 26 minutes played.
