COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Fresno Pacific men's water polo team opened conference play Saturday afternoon at Air Force. The Sunbirds and Falcons played a conference/non-conference doubleheader, with FPU falling 12-26 in the conference contest and 8-24 in the non-conference bout.
 
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams traded goals early. Pietro Cattano scored the last goal of the first quarter with 1:11 left in the frame to cut the Air Force lead to 5-4.
• The Falcons scored nine of the 11 second-quarter goals and took a 14-6 lead into the half.
• FPU was outscored 12-6 in the second half.

STATS FROM THE MATCH

• The Sunbirds fired 23 shots in the contest.
• Bodhi Bowden led the way offensively for the Blue & Orange, scoring six goals on thirteen shots.
• Eugenio Maldonado was the only other Sunbird with multiple goals, scoring two while also dishing out an assist.
• Pietro Cattano swiped two steals in the game.

GAME 2 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The hosts jumped out in front with a 5-1 lead at the end of the first and never looked back.
• The Sunbirds were outscored 8-3 in the second quarter, 6-3 in the third, and 5-1 in the fourth.

STATS FROM THE MATCH

• Bowden once again led the Sunbird attack with four goals.
• Eugenio Maldonado and Trevor Riley each chipped in with two goals each.
• Thilo Popp dished out the only FPU assist in the game.
• Ethan McLaughlin got the start in goal and made four saves.

UP NEXT

• After nine games away from home, the Sunbirds will host Biola in their home season opener. The game will start on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
