FRESNO, Calif. – For the first time since Nov. 8, 2019, the Fresno Pacific men's water polo team hosted a game at Sunnyside High School. It was a warm homecoming for the Sunbirds, as they grabbed their first WWPA win of the season, 16-6 over Biola.
QUOTABLE
"I was really happy with how the guys played," said head coach
Bryan Suhovy. "We were missing some depth, but the rest of the team stepped up. I think they managed the game well, I was really impressed. It's the most patient I've seen these guys play this season."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- FPU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead thanks to three first-quarter goals from Bodhi Bowden. Biola scored their first at the end of the first to cut the lead to 5-1 going into the second.
- FPU's Thilo Popp and William Green were the only players to score in the second quarter, helping the Sunbirds take a 7-1 lead into the halftime break.
- The 'Birds came out of halftime firing, scoring three more goals in the first three minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 10-1.
- It looked like Biola might make a run after they closed the third quarter strong and cut their deficit to 10-5, but the Sunbirds responded with a 6-2 fourth quarter to close out the contest.
