FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific University men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday night, shutting out CSU San Marcos 3-0.
QUOTABLE:
"It's a very important win. San Marcos is a team that is pesky and fights for every ball. It was very important to get the first win of the season, and more importantly for it to be a shutout. We know we can create and score goals, but it was key for our defense to lock in and earn the shutout." – head coach Jaime Ramirez.
SCORING:
· (4:22) Fellipe Souza got the Sunbirds on the board early when he knocked past the keepers left off a pass from Gabriel Monteiro.
· (48:34) Hunter Shephard was tested early in the second half, making tough consecutive saves to keep CSUSM off the board.
· (53:38) The Sunbirds added to their lead when AntonioAngel Lepe put one past the Cougars goalkeeper with assistance from Angel Ruelas and Fellipe Souza to put their team up 2-0.
· (58:42) Lepe added to his stat line with his second goal of the match, putting FPU up 3-0.

· Shephard was rock-solid between the posts for the Sunbirds, making seven saves during the match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
· Shephard earned his first career shutout for the Sunbirds on Saturday.
