‘Birds Shine on Final Day of Nationals with Sixth and Second-Place Finishes

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 2021 NCAA National Track and Field Championships came to a close on Saturday, with both Fresno Pacific women's relay teams finishing with All-American status as a top eight team in the nation. All six Sunbirds who qualified for the National Championships competed on Saturday, while Chloe Sharp and Madison Flores added both events to their All-American resumés.

QUOTABLE:
  • "I'm almost beyong words trying to describe how proud I am of these women. A massive school record and All-American performance in the 4x100, a national runner-up performance in the 4x400, and just a bunch of first-class human beings that deserve all of the success through their hard work. It was a historic day for the program, and this group continues to raise the bar for us." – head coach Ray Winter

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • FPU's first event of the day was the women's 4x100 relay, with the team of Kyra Bailey, Kyla Richardson, Sharp and Flores teaming up for a sixth-place finish. Their time of 45.71 sets a school record, marking the third time this year that the program mark has fallen.
  • Sharp and Flores were the first and third leg of the 4x400 relay respectively, with Mikaela Smith in the two-spot and Danae Manibog serving as the anchor. The quartet wrapped up the week with a second-place time of 3:41.61, the school's best finish in any event since joining the NCAA ranks. That mark is just .05 away from the school record, which was set at the National Championships in 2019 in Kingsville, Texas.
  • The Blue and Orange finish as the 22nd-ranked team in the nation on the women's side.
