RESULTS 

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 2021 NCAA National Track and Field Championships opened on the campus of Grand Valley State University on Thursday, with the women's 4x100 relay team highlighting the day for Fresno Pacific.
 
QUOTABLE:

• "We really wanted to go 3-for-3 today on our events and unfortunately came up short of that goal. The 4x100 relay ran really well but still has a lot of little touchups to take care of for Saturday's final. The main thing was to get a lane and have that opportunity, so we are excited about that. Danae Manibog battled with some leg cramps but will be fully ready to go for the 4x400m relay prelims tomorrow. Kyla Richardson ran very well in the 100m prelim but her heat had half the tailwind as the other heat, and that proved to be the difference. These women are as detail-oriented and focused in their preparation as any group we have ever coached, so I feel proud of their efforts today. We are all excited for Mikaela Smith's prelim in the 800m tomorrow, as well as the 4x400m relay." – head coach Ray Winter

 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• The 4x100 relay team of Kyra Bailey, Kyla Richardson, Chloe Sharp and Madison Flores came away with a time of 46.66 in the prelims. The Blue and Orange snagged the final spot in Saturday's final, which is scheduled to begin at 2:05 p.m. PST. 
• Danae Manibog turned in a time of 57.66 in the 400 meter run to finish sixth in her heat. 
• Kyla Richardson's time of 11.85 in the 100 meter dash was good enough for fouth in her heat, but she missed the final by just .05.

• Mikaela Smith will compete in the 800 meter run prelims on Friday at 2:40 p.m. PST, and the 4x400 relay team of Sharp, Smith, Flores and Manibog will run in the prelims at 3:40 p.m. PST. Stay tuned to FPUAthletics.com and Sunbird Social for more updates.
