FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific track and field teams wrapped up the 2021 PacWest Championships on Saturday, with the Sunbird men finishing in second and the women ending the weekend in third place.
Brett Lombardi was strong for the Blue and Orange all weekend, totaling 38 points for the meet, the highest of any individual on either side.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEKEND:
FRIDAY
- Klaryssa Moreno started the day with a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 159'4".Christy Norris-Dow (142'9") and Hope Erwin (118'11") gave the Sunbirds three of the top ten finishers in the event, coming in fifth and ninth respectively.
- Jesse Franco found his way onto the podium on the men's side, tossing the hammer 147'4" to earn third place.Oscar Rayo (138'2") finished on his heels in fourth, while Moe Bradley (134'7") came in sixth.
- Lombardi picked up conference titles in the javelin throw (177'3") and the pole vault (14'11"), while fellow decathletes Toby Bartlett (14'5 ¼") and Bjoern Adden (14'5 ¼") gave the Blue and Orange three of the top four finishers in the pole vault.
- Adden (23'3 ½") came in third in the long jump, right behind FPU teammate Isaac Davis (23'4 ½").
- Kristi Yorke came in third place for FPU in the women's pole vault, doing so with a distance of 12'7 ½".
- Patrick Kiprop picked up a personal best time of 9:08.56 in the 3000m steeplechase, a quarter of a second behind the conference champion.
- Jojo Zorn (38:10.69) and Areceli Mancilla (38.34.58) came in second and third respectively in the women's 10K.
SATURDAY
- Norris-Dow opened Day Two with a defense of her conference shot put title, doing so with a 43'10" mark in the shot put.
- Lombardi wrapped up the decathlon in second place with a score of 6,064 points, thanks to three second-place event finishes in the long jump (21'0.25"), pole vault (14'1.25") and the 1500-meter run (5:11.49).
- Cullin Bates earned the conference crown in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.51, while Lombardi (57.03) joined Bates on the podium with a third-place finish.
- The 110-meter hurdles proved to be a huge point-earner for the Sunbirds, as Adden came in third and Tamar Archie came in fourth.
- Bates took second-place in the 400-meter hurdles, while a late kicked from Lombardi secured third for the Sunbirds.
- Moe Bradley won the men's shot put, earning the top spot with a throw of 51'1". He added a second-place finish in the discus with a distance of 151'4", helping him finish as the top point-scoring freshman of the meet.
- Danae Manibog became a conference champion in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.81. She was followed by teammate and fellow All-American Madison Flores, who finished with a 55.47, while Chloe Sharp earned fourth place with a time of 55.80, just .13 seconds off of her lifetime best.
- Kyla Richardson's time of 11.89 was good enough for second place in the 100-meter dash.
- Olivia Nash' distance of 39' ¼" in the triple jump landed her in fourth place, while Davis (48'4") came in second on the men's side.
- Mikaela Smith turned in a time of 2:11.77 in the 800-meter to finish in second place.
- Gianna Dickson gave FPU a second-place time of 1:02.32 in the 400-meter hurdles.
- Mancilla came in fourth for the Sunbirds in the 5K, doing so with a time of 18:56.50.
- After taking turns exchanging the school record in the men's 5K throughout the season, Kiprop and Bryan Banuelos finished in third and fourth respectively with times of 15:05.55 and 15:13.97.
- The women's 4x400 relay team of Sharp, Smith, Flores and Manibog cruised to victory with a time of 3:44.07.
UP NEXT:
- The Sunbirds will head south in two weeks for the final tune-up weekend before the NCAA National Championships, which will be hosted by Grand Valley State.
