FPU Sweeps ARTU to Remain Perfect at Home

FRESNO, Calif. – Led by a double-double from Corinne Acosta, the Fresno Pacific volleyball team swept Academy of Art 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) to stay unbeaten inside the Special Event Center this season.
 
QUOTABLE:
  • "All of the stuff we have been working on during practices showed during tonight's match. The chemistry and the culture of our team showed up when we needed it. Academy of Art is a well-coached team that's big and physical and they came at us in the second set. We stayed disciplined on defense and it proved vital in tonight's match." – head coach Shasta Millhollin 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • An ace from Lauren Ornbaun pushed the first set score to 16-12 in favor of the Sunbirds.
  • Acosta supplied the final kill in the first set, lifting the 'Birds to a 25-23 set win.
  • The second set featured eight ties and five lead changes, with the final tie coming at 23.
  • Consecutive kills from Izzy Bandy and Catie Speas gave FPU the final two points they needed for a 25-23 set win.
  • The 'Birds soared to a 9-3 lead in the third set before cruising to a 25-16 set win.
STATS FROM THE MATCH: 
  • Acosta led the 'Birds in both kills (13) and digs (18) to complete the double-double.
  • Makena Ogas was strong for the Blue and Orange, hammering home 11 kills on a .389 hitting percentage.
  • Bandy was incredibly efficient, earning a .769 hitting percentage while racking up a career-best 10 kills.
  • Speas and Ornbaun ran a smooth offense, as Speas led the way with 18 assists while Ornbaun added 13.
