Richardson, Kiprop Set School Records at Mustang Quad Meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – FPU track and field's Kyla Richardson broke her own school record in the women's 100-meter dash, while Patrick Kiprop surpassed teammate Bryan Banuelos with a new FPU record in the 5,000-meter run at the Mustang Quad Meet on Saturday.

QUOTABLE:
  • " We had a good overall day for the programs here at Cal poly, even in the midst of mid-season training as we keep our eye on some big picture prizes in April and May. Some absolute all-time performances were massive highlights for the entire team today in Kyla, Patrick, and a couple others like Kyra and Cullin, but from my perspective, I am equally excited about the 25 or so season and lifetime personal records that happened all over the track and field today. The data suggests that we are doing most things mostly right, so we will just stay faithful to the process and look forward to another opportunity to compete next week." – head coach Ray Winter
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Kyla Richardson came away as not only the fastest woman on the track by winning the 100m in 11.65, but also rewrote her own school record by a full two-tenths of a second.
  • Finishing on her shoulder was teammate Kyra Bailey, who ran the second fastest time in school history in 11.84 seconds.
  • Zara Anthony also wowed in the 100m dash with a time of 12.18.
  • Danae Manibog joined Anthony, Bailey and Richardson in the 4x100-meter relay to take the event with a time of 47.03.
  • The 4x400m was won by FPU's Mikaela Smith, Chloe Sharp, Manibog and Bailey who finished with a time of 3:49.80.
  • Christy Norris-Dow won shout put with a throw of 45'4.25".
  • Alicia Garcia took javelin with a mark of 118'9".
  • Other notable performances on the day include Olivia Nash's triple jump mark of 38'9.25", a season best, seventh all-time for FPU, and just .07m shy of the provisional standard.
  • On the men's side, the breakthrough performance of the meet came from Kiprop who won the 5,000m run in a school record time of 14:23.64, taking 8.5 seconds off teammate Banuelos' previous record which was set just 4 weeks ago on FPU's track. Kiprop's time is nine seconds under the provisional standard for nationals.
  • Banuelos also had a great effort in this race, finishing just seconds off his lifetime best and fourth in the race.
  • Another major highlight on the day came from Cullin Bates, who ran a lifetime best 14.45 in the 110m-hurdles which was good enough for second in the race and third all-time for FPU. It also hits the national provisional standard.
  • Isaac Davis held it down for the Sunbirds in the field events, winning the long jump 22'1.5" 6.
  • Toby Bartlett added a couple more inches to his lifetime best and one of the conference-leading marks in the pole vault (14'9").
