Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Fresno Pacific women's tennis team closed out the 2021 season on Saturday, falling 4-2 at the hands of MSU Denver in the consolation final of the PacWest Championships. The Sunbirds end the year in sixth place, the highest finish since relaunching the program. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Roadrunners took the doubles point with victories in the first and third flights.
• Marie Cool defeated Daimy Paula 6-3, 6-1 on Court 6 to give MSU Denver a 2-0 lead, and Lilly Stienemeier followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sanne Brull to put the 'Runners on the brink of victory. 
• Alice Marques got the Blue and Orange on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Gala Costello on Court 4, and Alice Di Matteo made it interesting with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the third flight.
• Helena Steenberg picked up the final point of the day for the Roadrunners, defeating Lea Falentin 7-6, 6-4 on Court 2. 
• Mariia Borodii was down a set and trailing 3-2 in the second at the time of the MSUD clinch.

 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• The Sunbirds finish the season with a record of 7-5 against non-Division I opponents.
• FPU has spent the bulk of the year in the national ITA rankings, jumping as high as 17th.
