'Birds Perform Well at Wildflower Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – The FPU track and field teams competed in their fifth home meet of the season on Saturday, turning in strong performances at the Wildflower Invitational.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  
  • In his first 3000m steeplechase race, Patrick Kiprop ran away from the field to finish in a time of 9:17.96. This ranks second all-time in FPU history and is just four seconds shy of both the school record and a provisional qualifying standard for Nationals.
  • Moe Bradley was also a winner in the shot put, improving his lifetime personal best to 51'8.25" which moves him to fourth all time in FPU history.
  • Joining him on that list is Jesse Franco who who set a new personal standard with a throw of 48'1.5" to get onto the all-time list in 10th.
  • Franco also had the best hammer throw for the Sunbirds, throwing a new personal best of 150'5".
  • These marks, Along with Alicia Garcia's winning javelin throw in a personal best distance of 130'7.5" highlighted a weekend that had 16 lifetime bests for the men's and women's throws squad.
  • Olivia Nash improved on her season best in the triple jump, going 39'0.5" to take second on the day and hit the national provisional standard. This moves her to T-5th in FPU history in the event.
  • Isaac Davis and Tamar Archie also had big days in the triple jump, jumping lifetime best of 48'9.25" and 45'8.25", respectively.
  • This jump by Davis moves him to eighth all-time in FPU history, and 12th on the national performance list this season.
  • Jojo Zorn won the 10k in a controlled effort, running 39:06.90. This locates her as the eighth fastest 10k runner in FPU history.
  • Another standout performer on the track was Kyra Bailey, who won the 100m dash (12.19) and came in a close second in the 200m in a lifetime best 24.85.
  • Other winners on the track included Danae Manibog in the 400m (56.05).

  • The Sunbirds are set to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, next Friday and Saturday.
