AZUSA, Calif. – The second of three matches in Southern California for the Fresno Pacific women's tennis team took place on Tuesday against Azusa Pacific. The Sunbirds battled for every point, but the Cougars found a way to squeeze past them 4-3.

QUOTABLE:  

• "I'm very proud of the resiliency our student-athletes showed today. We had several opportunities but weren't able to capitalize on the ones we needed to. It was great to see Lea play well from start to finish and close out the match on her service game. Sanne and Daimy were clutch today. Both winning the third set even when it became tight. Lea, Daimy, and Sanne maintained their composure when it mattered and that's something to take away. This is what I wanted to see. They showed that they are willing to fight and grind for every point." – head coach George Rodriguez

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

• The Cougars gained an early edge, taking all three doubles flights to start the day.
• Lea Falentin got the 'Birds on the board in the second flight of singles, taking it to Anna Savchenko 7-5, 6-4.
• Sanne Brull was impressive in the fifth flight of singles, dropping the first set 3-6 before storming back to take the win 6-2, 7-5.
• Daimy Paula put together another clutch performance for the Blue and Orange, taking the sixth flight 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 over the Cougars' Katia Betancourt.
• The Cougars secured the match with three points remaining, but the Sunbirds stayed persistent, claiming each of those three points to close out the match
