Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

FPU Makes Quick Work of Vulcans in Home Opener

FRESNO, Calif. – With rain in the area for most of the day, the Fresno Pacific women's tennis team managed to sneak in a two-hour window to host Hawai'i Hilo in the home opener on Friday. The Sunbirds were able to pick up a 4-0 victory, doing so in just over two hours.

QUOTABLE:
  • "We were able to win the doubles point after Daimy and Alice {Marques} played a flawless match. Mariia and Lea clinched the doubles point for us with a very tactically smart match. Lea has proven how mentally and physically tough she is, and that showed in singles action today. Mariia put her game together today in the way that we have envisioned, and Sanne clinched the match after transforming herself into a multi-dimensional player who dictates the match. Our team played great today, and it turned out to be a solid win for us." – head coach George Rodriguez

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Alice Marques and Deimy Paula won #3 doubles, and Mariia Borodii and Lea Falentin gave the Blue and Orange the first point of the day with a 6-4 victory on Court One.
  • Falentin handled Carolina Alfonsin in the second singles flight with set scores of 6-3, 6-0.
  • Borodii picked up a win in #1 singles to put FPU on the brink of victory, and Sanne Brull closed it out with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the fifth flight.

UP NEXT:
  • The Sunbirds will head south on Saturday to take on Cal State Fullerton on the road. The match is set to begin at 12:30 p.m., and Saturday will mark FPU's fifth match against a Division I opponent this season.
