FRESNO, Calif. - The FPU women's basketball team hosted Azusa Pacific on Tuesday afternoon, falling 79-69 at the Special Events Center.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
- Final: APU 79, FPU 69
- Records: FPU (3-3, 3-0 PacWest), APU (4-3, 3-3 PacWest)
- Location: Special Events Center | Fresno, Calif.
QUOTABLE:
- "We are excited that we were able to get two games on the calendar against Azusa Pacific this year. They were a little bit different than the teams we have faced so far, and we knew they would be more physical. We did a good job in spurts defensively and gave them all they could handle offensively. We lost our way a bit in the second and quarter, but we have some good stretches to dive into on film that will help us get better. They have some really good players, but we think we can go to toe to toe with them on any given night." – head coach Tim Beauregard
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- McClard gave Fresno Pacific control of the opening tip, and reigning PacWest Norcal Player of the Week came away with the first bucket of the game.
- The two teams played each other even over the first quarter, but a 26-8 Cougar run in the second gave the Brick and Black a 16-point lead at the intermission.
- The Sunbirds chipped away in the third, cutting the APU lead to just three behind a 15-point frame from McClard.
- Azusa Pacific was able to stay in front for the entire fourth quarter, squashing FPU's come-from-behind effort.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
- McClard finished two points shy of Molly Whitmore's game-high 22 points, while Berry and Felicia Dourva went for 19 and 12 respectively.
- APU outrebounded FPU by a narrow 37-36 margin while winning the turnover battle 11-9.
