DALY CITY, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's tennis team defeated Academy of Art 5-2 on Saturday, giving the Sunbirds their first victory of the year. The win is also the first under head coach George Rodriguez. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  
"I'm really excited about the team's performance today. The grit and fight they showed was what I've been wanting to see from them for a while. Having played three D1 schools also prepared us for today mentally. They beat a really good team in Academy of Art. We've worked extremely hard for this moment and blessed for an opportunity to play." - George Rodriguez

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:  

• The day started with doubles action, with Mariia Borodii and Lea Falentin having to win a tiebreaker in the top flight to earn the first point of the afternoon. 
• Alice Marques won by retirement in #4 singles, and Julia Ortega followed with a win on court six to give the Urban Knights their first point of the day. 
• Maria Casucci tied it at 2-2 with a win in the third flight, but Borodii, Falentin, and Sanne Brull picked up victories in the first, second and fifth respectively to close out the day. 

 
UP NEXT:  

• The Sunbirds are back in action tomorrow with a visit to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly. The match is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
