IRVINE, Calif. –  The Fresno Pacific University men's water polo team battled Concordia into sudden death overtime on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles found the golden goal to take the match 13-12 over the Sunbirds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Thilo Popp and William Green scored early for the Sunbirds, as the game was tied at two at the end of the first quarter.
• Bodhi Bowden and Pietro Cattano scored the in the second quarter, but the Eagles held a slim 5-4 lead at halftime.
• The Sunbird offense exploded for five goals in the third quarter, but the Eagles were able to keep pace with four goals of their own during that stretch.
• Bowden scored with 4:12 to play, putting the Birds up 10-9.
• Concordia's Callin Chimilar tied the game with 3:10 left to play, forcing overtime.
• Both teams went scoreless in the first overtime period.
• After a goal from CUI, Green answered with a shot that tied it back up with 1:37 left in the second overtime.
• Steven Chapman scored what looked to be the game winner with 43 seconds left, but the Eagles answered with 23 seconds left to force sudden death.
• CUI's Jeff Runyan scored the game-winner.

STATS FROM THE GAME

• Bowden led the Sunbirds with four goals.
• Popp was also stout for the Birds, scoring three goals while adding two assists and four steals.
• Clay Maroney made seven saves in goal for the Sunbirds.
