Souza Shines on Senior Night

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific jumped back in the win column on Saturday night with a 3-2 win over Chaminade at Ramirez Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chaminade opened the scoring behind a sliding goal from Kelton Cheney two minutes into the game.
  • Fellipe Souza netted a penalty kick for the Sunbirds less than six minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Cheney struck again, however, for Chaminade midway through the opening period (19:02) to make the score 2-1 in favor of CUH.
  • Following a foul, Souza played a quick ball to the head of FPU's Angel Ruelas to knot the game at two apiece just before halftime (41:22).
  • The Sunbirds came out of halftime aggressive, as AntonioAngel Lepe cleaned up a deflected shot from Souza inside the box to give FPU the lead 3-2 with 40 minutes to play.
  • The Sunbird defense held strong the rest of the match to secure the win.
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Souza had a hand in every FPU score on the night, totaling a goal and two assists. 
  • FPU out-shot Chaminade 17-14.
  • The match featured 25 combined fouls and four yellow cards. 
BEYOND THE BOX
  • FPU honored its senior class on Saturday prior the game.
  • Souza leads the PacWest in points (17).
