Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sunbirds Stunned by Late Goal from Biola

FRESNO, Calif. – Saturday night came down to the final minutes as the Biola Eagles found an 84th minute winner over the Fresno Pacific men's soccer team at Ramirez Field.

QUOTABLE
"We started off well," said head coach Jaime Ramirez. "We got the early goal and thought it would stand. We talked about the adjustments we needed to make at halftime. But, over the course of the game your opponent starts to wear on you, and we did some things that we don't train. We knew they were dangerous on set pieces, and we let them have a few too many of them."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (29:33) The Sunbirds opened the scoring in the first half on a well-worked combination down the right side of the field that eventually found its way to D'Andre Renteria, who slotted it past the Eagles keeper.
  • (52:31) Biola equalized soon after halftime when Isaac Zausch headed home a corner.
  • (83:16) The Eagles found the winner on a long-range free kick that went over the Sunbird wall and into the bottom corner of the goal.
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Other than Renteria, the Sunbird offense was led by Fellipe Souza who finished the game with three shots, while Taran Williams finished with two.
  • Matteo Swenson made the start between the sticks for FPU and made three saves in the contest.
  • The Eagles outshot the Sunbirds 16-to-8, but each team had five shots on goal.
UP NEXT
  • FPU will begin a long road trip next Tuesday when they travel to Santa Cruz to take on UC Santa Cruz at 3 p.m.
