FRESNO, Calif – The FPU volleyball team hosted Azusa Pacific on Friday night, as the visiting Cougars got the best of the Sunbirds 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-15).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Cougars got off to a fast start, taking down the Sunbirds 25-8 in the opening set.
- The Sunbirds battled back into the second set, going on an early 7-3 run that was capped by a kill from Makena Ogas.
- The Birds trailed 13-10 when Catie Speas sparked a quick 5-1 run that put the team up 15-14.
- APU found the points they needed down the stretch to take it 25-21.
- The Cougars used a 16-6 run to gain an early advantage as they went on to take the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
STATS FROM THE MATCH:
- Lauren Wamsley led the Sunbirds with eight kills while adding two digs and two block assists.
- Chantel Montayre was stout defensively, scooping up 27 digs.
- Corinne Acosta also had a strong defensive night, putting up 16 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- The Cougars were receiving votes in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association National Poll.
