FRESNO, Calif – The Fresno Pacific University volleyball team hosted Hawaii Hilo on Friday night. The Sunbirds struggled to keep pace with the Vulcans, falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-18). 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Sunbirds battled the Valcuns early, trailing 17-16. 
• HHU used a late 8-3 run to take the set 25-18.
• The Vulcans exploded to a 14-4 lead in the second set and would take it 25-13. 
• HHU used another early run to jump out to a 9-4 lead in the third set. 
• The Vulcans took the final set 25-18 and the match 3-0. 

STATS FROM THE MATCH: 

• Corinne Acosta led everyone with 15 kills with 13 digs to complete the double-double. 
• Anastassiya Barakhoyeva had three kills on a .750 hitting percentage while adding nine assists and 12 digs for a solid all-around performance. 
• Catie Speas led the team with 12 assists. 
• Chantel Montayre was strong defensively, leading the team with 21 digs. 
• Chloe Melis stuffed five attacks, three of which were assisted. 

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Acosta eclipsed 15 kills for the seventh time this season. 
• The Vulcans received votes in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association National Poll. 

UP NEXT:

• The Blue and Orange host Chaminade tomorrow at 3 p.m. inside the Special Events Center.
