FPU Downs Biola, Extends Win Streak to Four

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's tennis team continued its' season-opening hot streak on Saturday, defeating Biola 5-2 to improve to 4-0. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

  • "Although we had a slow start in doubles, our girls are quick to regroup and came out and jumped to a quick finish to clinch at 4-1. Seeing them play from behind with an eagerness to overcome, I think that speaks to their toughness. HOW IT HAPPENED:  
  • The Eagles took the doubles point after winning the first and third flights, but the Sunbirds were able to answer in singles action. 
  • Lea Falentin gave FPU its' first point of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the second flight, and Alice Di Matteo put the Blue and Orange in front with a win by the same score in the fourth flight. 
  • Sanne Brull put FPU in front 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Madison Swaney in the fifth flight, and Ioanna Lathouri clinched with a 6-3, 6-2 win in #3 singles.
  • Alice Marques knocked off Anna Hartman in the sixth flight with scores of 6-2, 6-2 to make it 5-1, but Colbeyshaw Emery was able to take the top flight in three sets.   
 
BEYOND THE BOX:   
  • In 11 matches dating back to last season, the Sunbirds have never lost at home under head coach Priscilla Jensen.
  • FPU is the first team in the PacWest Conference to four wins this season.

UP NEXT   
  • FPU is back in action next Saturday, when they host Westmont at Haak Tennis Complex. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
