‘Birds Share the Wealth in Win over Point Loma

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team came away with a 70-61 victory over Point Loma on Saturday, with three Sunbirds scoring in double-figures. Cassie Pisik came away with her 23rd career double-double in the victory, putting her fifth all-time in the FPU record books.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Sunbirds were hit with two fouls in the first 19 seconds of the game but answered with a 13-2 run that stunned the Sea Lions.
  • FPU hit a road block in the second quarter, connecting on just two attempts from the floor and allowing Point Loma to get within a point heading to the break.
  • Bayli McClard and Jessica Malazarte combined for a dozen third quarter points to give the Sunbirds a five-point edge, and the Blue and Orange only accelerated the lead in the fourth. 
  • FPU hit four straight shots, including a trio of threes, in a three-minute stretch in the final stanza to hold on for the upset win. 
 
STATS FROM THE GAME: 
  • PLNU's Cara Liggins led all scorers with 26 points, while Pisik's 20 was good enough to lead the Sunbirds. 
  • Malazarte finished on her heels with 18 points, and Felicia Dourva chipped in another 10.  
  • Pisik grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, while McClard grabbed 10 of her own to help FPU outrebound their guests 48-44. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Saturday was the first time the Sunbirds and Sea Lions met since PLNU ended FPU's season in the PacWest Tournament in 2019.
  • Fresno Pacific has not lost at home to Point Loma in the last three meetings at the Special Events Center.
