Cross' Double-Double Helps 'Birds Bounce Back, Rout Hawai’i Hilo

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team was on cruise control early on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hawai'i Hilo 74-46 at the Special Events Center. The Sunbirds are in the middle of a five-game home stand and have now won two of their last three games.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • After Vulcan forward Allie Navarette connected on a jumper to make it a 5-4 UHH lead, the 'Birds dominated the first quarter, following with a 17-0 run to put the game out of reach early.
  • The Blue and Orange kept the foot on the gas in the second quarter, with Cassie Pisik dropping a layup just before the break to give FPU a 42-16 advantage.
  • Ashley Cross was perfect from the floor in the second half, scoring 12 points on five shots to help FPU run away with the victory.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME: 
  • Pisik turned in a team-high 18 points as one of three Sunbirds in double-figures, while Navarette  led the Vulcans despite shooting 4-of-14 for the game.
  • Ashley Cross rounded out her first double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.  
  • The Sunbirds outrebounded their guests by a margin of 43-31, but UHH won the turnover battle 14-11.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The 28-point blowout is FPU's highest margin of victory since defeating Pacific Union 100-30 in December of 2018.

  • The Sunbirds return to the Special Events Center on Tuesday, when they look to even the season series against Hawai'i Pacific. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
