Big Second Half Helps Birds Clip Hawks

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team picked up a PacWest Conference victory on Saturday, defeating Holy Names 77-68 at the Special Events Center. The Sunbirds have now won two of their last three and appear to be picking up steam heading into the second half of the season. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Aamondae Coleman gave the home team control of the opening tip, and the Sunbirds followed with a 7-0 run to start the night. 
  • The Hawks then answered with a 13-2 run of their own, sparking a back-and-forth duel between the two teams that last for the bulk of the first half.
  • Bymnet Tecle knocked down a three for the final bucket of the half, giving Holy Names a 34-31 lead heading to the locker room at the break.
  • The offense clicked early in the second half for the Blue and Orange, as the Sunbirds came away with points on five of their first six possessions.
  • Raine McKeython's layup 95 seconds into the half ended up being the final lead change of the night, though the Hawks remained in striking distance for the game's duration. 
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Adrian Antunez (5-of-9 FG) and Nate Kendricks (7-of-8 FG) matched one another with a team-high 16 points, while Coleman added 14 of his own.
  • Hawk guard Rob Fuller led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, despite shooting just 6-of-16 from the floor.
  • HNU won the turnover battle 19-12, but the Blue and Orange outrebounded their guests 41-28 for the game.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Sunbirds and Hawks have now split the season series in each of the last four years.
