De Leon’s Goal Not Enough as ‘Birds Fall to Coyotes

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team was tripped up on Saturday evening, falling 2-1 at the hands of Cal State San Bernardino.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

SCORING:
  • (4:12) The Coyotes got on the scoreboard first, when Vidalia Abarca fired to the lower left corner from the far right side. 
  • (52:12) Tori De Leon provided the equalizer, taking a cross from Gia Jager and beating the CSUSB keeper in a one-on-one situation.  
  • (82:54) Abarca was credited with the game-winner on a shot similar to her first, slotting the ball just inside the left post.    
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • FPU outshot their guests 33-14, including an 18-11 mark in shots on frame.   
  • Hannah Hathaway picked up eight saves in the net for the Sunbirds, while Coyote counterpart Sophia Cortez racked up 17. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • De Leon's score broke a streak of 509 minutes that the Sunbirds had been held without a goal.
  • Hathaway has racked up a total of 22 saves this week.
  • FPU's 33 shots is the most since Oct. 4, 2018, when the 'Birds took 35 against Holy Names.
