‘Birds Take Down Stanislaus State for Second Time

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's tennis team opened a stretch of five straight home matches on Friday, defeating Stanislaus State for the second time by a final of 5-2. The Sunbirds improve to 10-2 on the year and still have the fewest losses of any team in the PacWest Conference.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Fresno Pacific 5-2
Records: FPU (10-2), CSUS (9-6)
Location: Haak Tennis Complex | Fresno, Calif.     
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Warriors swept doubles play to earn the first point of the afternoon. 
• Stanislaus State's Cassidy Ferrell won the top flight 6-0, 6-0 while FPU's Ioanna Lathouri was wrapping up the second flight with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Amila Gogalija.      
Alice Di Matteo and Sanne Brull were shaking hands with their respective opponents at the same time, with Di Matteo taking the fourth flight 6-3, 6-2 and Brull winning the fifth 6-3, 6-1.  
Imane Van Veen gave the Blue and Orange the clinching point, defeating Maria Ochoa 6-4, 6-4 in the third flight. 
Gaya Solomon picked up the final point of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the sixth flight.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Stanislaus State joins Dominican and Holy Names as opponents the Sunbirds have defeated twice this season. 
• Fresno Pacific is at home for the rest of the regular season.

UP NEXT:
• The Sunbirds are back in action on Saturday, when they a pair of matches at Haak Tennis Complex. The first match is against Mills College and begins at 10 a.m., and the second is against UC Santa Cruz and begins at 1 p.m.
