Sunbirds Tripped Up on Senior Day

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific baseball team fell 11-4 against 25th-ranked Azusa Pacific on Saturday afternoon, dropping the Sunbirds to 17-24 for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• A pair of Sunbird miscues gave the Cougars a 2-0 edge in the first inning, but FPU got a run back in the home half when Adam Aleman scored on a wild pitch.  
• Leftfielder Cole Kleszcz gave APU a 3-1 lead with his second double of the day an inning later, and a wild pitch allowed the Cougars to push it to 4-1 in the top of the fourth. 
• Reigning PacWest Freshman of the Year Osvaldo Tovalin plated a run in the sixth, and fellow Cougar Tido Robles tripled home the sixth run of the day for APU in the seventh.    
• Nick Dodd and Tristen Alvarez each gave the Blue and Orange an RBI in the home eight, but the ninth inning got away from the 'Birds in a hurry. By the time the dust settled, Azusa Pacific had struck for five more runs to take an 11-3 lead. 
• Jarrett Anton plated Jared Aguilar on a single to center in the bottom of the inning for the final run of the afternoon.      
 
STATS FROM THE DAY
• Dodd was the only Sunbird with a multi-hit performance on Saturday, while Aguilar was credited with the team's only extra base hit.
• Esteban Lizaola pitched into the sixth inning but took the loss after allowing five runs and walking six Cougar hitters.    
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Aguilar extended his hitting streak to eight games, and he has now reached safely in 12 straight.
• The Sunbirds honored the senior class prior to Saturday's game.

UP NEXT:
• The Sunbirds are back at home for the final series of the year, which runs from May 6-8 against Academy of Art. FPU is 22-6 all-time against the Urban Knights, including a 10-3 record in Fresno.
