OAKLAND, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's tennis team improved to 8-2 for the year on Friday afternoon, defeating Holy Names 4-3 on the road. The Hawks become the first opponent the Sunbirds have beaten twice this season, while FPU now stands 5-2 against opponents in the PacWest Conference.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Hawks took two doubles matches to earn the point, but the FPU tandem of Alice Di Matteo and Sanne Brull picked up a 6-3 victory in the third flight.
• Claudia Iglesias was the first to wrap up her singles match, earning the Sunbirds their first point of the day. 
• Ioanna Lathouri won by opponent retirement in the second flight, and HNU's Jahan Bayramova won the top singles flight 6-1, 6-4. 
• Brull defeated Macy Barajas 6-1, 6-3 in the fifth set, and Di Matteo gave the 'Birds another point with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Dominique Ernst in the third flight to clinch the match. 
• Imane Van Veen went three set with Symone Jacques before the Hawks earned their final point of the day with a 7-5 victory. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds have won five of their last six matches.
• Both of FPU's losses this spring have come away from home.
