About the Sunbirds (3-6)
Fresno Pacific is coming off a series loss against 12th-ranked Colorado Mesa last week, but the Sunbirds were able to salvage a walk-off win in the 11th inning of Saturday's series finale. Shortstop
Tristen Alvarez has been on a tear to start his senior campaign, hitting .361 with a team-high eight RBI through the first nine games. The Blue and Orange claim the 11th-best team ERA in the nation at 2.71, with seven arms having yet to surrender an earned run.
Leaderboard
About the Sharks (14-4)
Hawai'i Pacific has jumped out to one of the hottest starts in the West Region, sweeping Howard Payne to start the season before taking seven of nine from Hawai'i Hilo and three of four from Biola. The Sharks claim five of the top six on the conference leaderboard in RBI, with Jordan Mopas driving in 30 to lead the way. Shane Adams and Evan Spitzer have helped anchor the Shark pitching staff thus far, combining for 39 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work and a 1.71 ERA.
The Sunbirds are 12-12 against HPU in the all-time series, but the Sharks are 6-2 as the home team. The Blue and Orange claimed three of four in Fresno last spring.
About the Vulcans (4-6)
After the marathon series with HPU, Hawai'i Hilo sees Biola before hosting the Sunbirds next week. Kyle Yamada has hit .351 while leading the team in hits and RBI as one of just three Vulcans to hit over .300. John Kea has once again emerged as one the PacWest's top relievers, limiting opponents to a .200 average and allowing no earned runs in three outings out of the UHH bullpen.
FPU is 16-8 in the all-time series against Hawai'i Hilo, including winning four of the last six in Hilo. Last season in Fresno, the Vulcans claimed the first two games of the series, but FPU bounced back with 3-0 and 5-2 victories to salvage the split.
