FPU Falls to Concordia to Open Road Trip

IRVINE, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team was tripped up on Thursday night, falling 99-79 at the hands of Concordia in PacWest Conference action.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
  • Final: Concordia 99, Fresno Pacific 79
  • Records: FPU (3-7, 1-3 PacWest), Concordia (8-3, 2-0)
  • Location: CU Arena | Fresno, Calif.

QUOTABLE:
  • "We had some stretches of solid toughness tonight, but were just beat by a top-notch PacWest team. Individually, I thought Jonathan Brown and Nate Kendricks had solid outings for us, but we will continue to search for the consistency we need on both ends of the floor." – head coach C.J. Haydock

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Eagles controlled the opening tip, but the Sunbirds came away with the first bucket of the night at the other end of the floor after a missed three.
  • Concordia jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, connecting on more than 50% of field goals in the first half to carry a 45-33 advantage into the locker room at the break.
  • The Blue and Orange found the stroke to play their hosts even for the bulk of the second half, but the Eagles managed to shoot a remarkable 72% from the floor over the final 20 minutes.

STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Aamondae Coleman led the Sunbirds with 20 points, while Nate Kendricks poured in a season-high 16 off the bench.
  • Concordia's Andre Green led all scorers with 28 after an 11-of-17 shooting effort, while three of his teammates also got into double-figures.
  • The Sunbirds outrebounded the Eagles 35-29, but the home team won the turnover battle by a margin of 22-20.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Kendricks finished one point shy of matching his career-best, set last January against Hawai'i Pacific.
