Eagles Outlast Sunbirds in La Mirada

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team was tripped up on Saturday night, falling 77-67 on the back end of a PacWest Conference road trip.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
  • Final: Biola 77, Fresno Pacific 67
  • Records: FPU (3-8, 1-4 PacWest), Biola (8-3, 4-1 PacWest)
  • Location: Chase Gym | La Mirada, Calif.

QUOTABLE:
  • "Tonight was a better defensive effort from us, and despite the outcome, this was still a step in the right direction on that side of the ball. Offensively, we got quality looks from three and failed to convert them. Adrian Antunez carried the load for us offensively, and Alex Ferguson gave us a great lift defensively and on the glass. We have to continue to grow and get tougher." – head coach C.J. Haydock

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Eagles controlled the opening tip, but the Sunbirds got on the scoreboard first thanks to a Spencer Heimerdinger three-pointer.
  • Seven different FPU players found the bottom of the net in the first half, as the Blue and Orange connected on more than 40% from the floor for the first 20 minutes.
  • Biola's Michael Bagatourian beat the buzzer to end the first half and cut the Sunbird lead to just one heading to the intermission.
  • The Eagles connected on 8-of-17 from behind the arc, while Marquise Mosley's 13 second-half points led the way for the home team.

STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Chris Rossow gave Biola a game-high 20 points, while Antunez' 19 was good enough to lead the Sunbirds.
  • Alex Ferguson hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds, while two-time PacWest Freshman of the Week Jonathan Brown racked up four assists.
  • Biola outrebounded their guests 38-34, while the Blue and Orange narrowly won the turnover battle by a margin of 13-12.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Antunez has led the Sunbirds in scoring three times this season, second to only Aamondae Coleman.
