ARCATA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific rounded out the West Region Cross Over Classic against Seattle Pacific. The Blue and Orange outscored the Falcons in three of the four quarters to secure the win. FPU was led by Jessica Malazarte who had a team high of 25 points while four-other 'Birds scored in the double-digits.
 

"It felt like more than anything we played at the pace we wanted to for the entire game. I'm proud of our team's ability to continuously stick to our game plan and trust each other to make plays. This will make the long trip home easier, but our focus immediately shifts to a very tough opponent in Dominguez Hills. This will be a quick turnaround and Tuesday will come fast. Our mental preparation will be challenged as we know that Dominguez will present a unique battle for us," said head coach Tim Beauregard.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Fresno Pacific got on the board first as Jessica Malazarte completed a three-point play as she was fouled on a layup. The 'Birds controlled the rest of the first quarter as they had a six-point lead heading into the second.
• The Falcons and 'Birds went back-and-forth in the second quarter but the Blue and Orange managed to maintain their lead as they went into halftime,
• Malazarte drained a three-pointer to start out the third quarter for the 'Birds and that would set the tone for Fresno for the rest of the quarter as they were up by 13-points halfway through the third quarter.
• Fresno extended their lead in the fourth quarter as they outscored Seattle 24-17.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Malazarte led all scorers in the season opener with 25 points and added five assists for the Sunbirds.
• Ashley Cross followed with 15 points of her own, while Bayli McClard and Cassie Pisik turned in 12 and 11 respectively.
Fresno Pacific outscored Seattle Pacific in every quarter but the third.
• The Sunbirds were 49.3% from the field and 46.2 from behind the arc.

Jessica Malazarte was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance at the West Region Crossover Classic.
