FRESNO, Calif. – After being on the road for their first few games of the season the Sunbirds hosted the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Special Events Center on November 12th. FPU got out to a quick start as they outscored CSDH in the first quarter and then were tied going into halftime. Although the 'Birds outscored the Toros by ten-points in the third, CSDH took the momentum from FPU and took down the Sunbirds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Toros won the opening tip and despite a steal by Cassie Pisik to start the game, CSDH scored first two-points of the game. FPU responded with a layup of their own by Ashley Cross. The 'Birds were able to keep their momentum and take a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter after a three-pointer by Landynn Munster. Â
• Fresno got out to a quick start in the second quarter as they went on an eight-point run before the Toros drew a foul and were able to cut FPU's lead to 14-points. CSDH turned it around FPU and went on a 14-point run of their own to tie the game up at 34 each.
• Despite the Toros scoring first to start the third quarter the Sunbirds went on an eight-point run to take back control of the lead. Two-free throws by Megan Shert with just a minute left to play in the third quarter gave the 'Birds a ten-point lead heading into the final quarter of the game. Â
• CSDH chipped away at the Sunbirds' lead in the fourth quarter and managed to tie it up at 71-71 with 3:32 left to play. The final few minutes of play were back-and-forth but CSDH managed to pull away after the 'Birds committed multiple fouls and they were able to make their free-throws. Â

STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Junior Jessica Malazarte led the team with 21 points and added six assists for the Sunbirds.
• Bayli McClard followed with 15 points of her own, while Cassie Pisik and Ashley Cross turned in 15 and 13 respectively.
• The Sunbirds were 84.2% from the charity stripe while the Toros were 78.3%. Â
