CSULA Steals Late Win from Sunbirds

LOS ANGELES - The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team fell on the road on Saturday night, falling to Cal State LA by a final of 86-83 on the road.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
  • Final: FPU 86, CSULA 83
  • Records: FPU (0-4), CSULA (3-1)
  • Location: University Gym | Los Angeles, Calif.

QUOTABLE:
  •    "We played our best game of the season tonight, we had shots and chances to make winning plays, and we came up just short to a very talented team," head coach C.J. Haydock said. "We will continue to diligently work on shoring up our consistency and ability to close out games. I'm proud of our guys and how they handled a ton of adversity this evening, and I remain convinced our best basketball is in the near future."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sunbirds controlled the opening tip, and Sean Nealon-Lino knocked down a three to open the scoring.
  • The two teams went back and forth for most of the first half, but a trio of free throws sent the Golden Eagles to the locker room at the intermission with a tie game.
  • A fast break bucket from Adrian Antunez put the Blue and Orange back in front with 15 minutes to play in the second half, but 11 lead changes would follow.
  • CSULA sunk four free throws in the game's final 32 seconds to take an 86-83 lead, with FPU only getting a look at one shot during that span.

STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Aamondae Coleman led the way for the Sunbirds, posting a game-high in points (23) and rebounds (13).
  • Antunez and Nealon-Lino followed with 19 and 15 points respectively, while Raine McKeython came off the bench to score 10.
  • The Sunbirds outrebounded their hosts 42-29, but CSULA won the turnover battle 22-12.
