FRESNO, CALIF. – With only two home games left in the season the Sunbirds hosted Dominican on Wednesday, November 13
th in the Special Events Center. Last time the two squared off the Penguins were able to take the 'Birds down in four sets. It was a bird fight this time around as well, but the Sunbirds were able to edge the Penguins in five sets.
INSIDE THE MATCH UPS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- - The 'Birds and Penguins went back-and-forth in the opening set of the night as they traded turns leading. A kill by Jaalyn Sotoa-Stuebing swung the lead back in FPU's favor and resulted in them taking the first set.
- - Set number two was very similar as the Penguins and Sunbirds went point for point until DU went on a five-point run to put some distance between themselves and the Sunbirds and take the second set.
- - Dominican got out to a quick start in the third set as well and despite a kill by Corinne Acosta to make it 10-17 and give the 'Birds some momentum, the Penguins took the third as well.
- - With their backs against the wall in the fourth set the Sunbirds pushed ahead of the Penguins 23-17 with the help of four-straight kills by Acosta and one attacking error by Dominican. A kill by Christina Tran solidified the fourth set for the Birds.
- - The fifth and final set was back-and-forth until Makena Ogas strung together back-to-back kills with Acosta adding one as well to give the 'Birds a 9-6 lead.
- - The final four points of the game came off of three kills by Acosta and one attacking error by Dominican to give the 'Birds the win.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- - Makena Ogas had a career high of 22 kills (.553) and fellow freshman Corinne Acosta trailed with 21 kills (.306) in the win.
- - Setters Anastassiya Barakhoyeva and Christina Tran also had career nights in assists. Barakoyeva with 24 and Tran with 35.
- - Acosta also had a team high of 28 digs with Sierra LeBeau closely behind with 27. CT and Ana respectively added 23 and 18 digs for the 'Birds.
