FRESNO, CALIF. – Fresno Pacific hosted Chaminade on Wednesday night in their sixth PacWest match of the season. The 'Birds looked to give the Silverswords their first loss conference loss of the season but fell short, despite taking the third set.
INSIDE THE MATCH UPS:
Final: Fresno Pacific 1, Chaminade 3
Set Score: 17-25, 20-25, 30-28, 20-25
Records: FPU (2-14), CUH (11-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Fresno Pacific came out ready as they were point for point early on in the opening set. However, the Silverswords pulled out to an 18-13 lead and did not look back there as the took set number one.
- Similar story in the second set for the Sunbirds as they were matching the Silverswords point for point early on. CUH pulled away to 20-13, the 'Birds managed to collect seven more points in the set before Chaminade claimed the second set as well.
- In the third set FPU battled from behind right out of the gate, but eventually tied it up at 18 each. The 'Birds and 'Swords would match each other point for point until Christina Tran got a kill for FPU's 28 point and Jaalyn Sotoa-Stuebing followed with point number 30 resulting in the Sunbirds taking a thrilling set three.
- FPU carried their momentum into the beginning of the fourth set as they started out on a 3-1 lead, but Chaminade eventually took the lead back and would keep it allowing them to collect the win.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Corinne Acosta and Miska Legatova carried the Sunbirds as they each collected 14 kills in the loss.
- Senior Christina Tran continues to be an asset for FPU as she had 17 assists, 10 digs, seven kills and three aces.
- On the backline Sierra LeBeau had a team high of 20 digs and added one ace.
- The Sunbirds had a game high of seven blocks in the match.
