HONOLULU, HAWAI'I. – Looking to bounce back after falling in their first match on the islands the Sunbirds traveled to McCabe Gymnasium to take on the Silverswords of Chaminade. Fresno Pacific came out ready to play as they took the first two sets of the match but dropped the next three.
 
INSIDE THE MATCH UPS:

Set Score: 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 14-25, 4-15

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• - Fresno Pacific and Chaminade battled point-for-point in the opening set of the match. The 'Birds took their first lead of the match after a Christina Tran ace forcing the 'Swords to take a timeout. 
• - FPU went up 20-16 in the first set to force a second CUH timeout. Janae Bibby however came out of the timeout with an ace to give the 'Birds their largest lead of the set. The Sunbirds secured the win in the opening set off of a Silversword attacking error.
• - It was a similar story in the second set as FPU and CUH battled for each point and went back and forth. Chaminade was forced to call a timeout after Mikayla Kennedy recorded back-to-back blocks to give the Blue and Orange an 8-4 lead.
• - An ace by Christina Tran forced an CUH timeout and gave the 'Birds a 19-14 lead in the second set.  Corinne Acosta recorded her fourth kill of the match and it was an important one as the 'Birds took game two.
• - FPU came out flat in the third set as they started out down 2-7. The Sunbirds had to battle from behind the whole third set but got within one after a Jaalyn Sotoa-Stuebing kill and followed by two CUH errors. The Silverswords took the third set forcing a game four. 
• - Chaminade jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the fourth set forcing Fresno to take a time out. The 'Swords took their largest lead of the match as they led the 'Birds 15-6 before FPU called their final timeout. 
• - CUH took the fourth set after being down by two sets and forced a fifth and final set.
• - Fresno dug themselves into a hole in the final set and could not seem to get out of it as they dropped the match to Chaminade.

 
STATS OF THE MATCH:

• - Miska Legatova had a team high of 10 kills for the Blue and Orange in the five-game match. 
• - Senior Christina Tran had 21 assists and nine kills for the Sunbirds while Makena Ogas and Corinne Acosta each added seven kills. 
• - The Sunbirds totaled eight service aces and 10 blocks in the loss.
