FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team opened the Division II West Region Showcase on Friday. The Sunbirds failed to hold homecourt advantage at the Special Events Center, as FPU fell to Simon Fraser 3-1 and UC San Diego 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds struggled in the early morning game against Simon Fraser in the first two frames, but bounced back to win set three 25-23. Down 2-1 in the match, the 'Birds were held to .039 hitting in the fourth to fall 3-1 to the Clan.
• In game two of the day, FPU couldn't keep up with the high-powered offense of UCSD to fall in straight sets. The Sunbirds were held to .130 hitting in the match, while the Tritons countered at .297.
 
STATS OF THE MATCHES:
• Carley Bock played well Friday's opener, as the senior totaled a season-best 16 kills. Christina Tran added 12 kills, 10 assists and nine digs, while Greta Dobenecker amassed 17 digs and 29 assists in the setback to SFU.
• FPU received seven kills and 10 assists from Tran against UCSD. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds are the host of the West Region Showcase. FPU is hosting 12 games in two days at the SEC.

• The Sunbirds wrap up the tournament schedule on Saturday with two matches. FPU faces Seattle Pacific at 1 p.m. and Chico State at 7:45 p.m.
