FPU Baseball Drops Series to Dixie State, Home Finale Next Week

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Fresno Pacific baseball team dropped the final game of the series against Dixie State on Saturday afternoon, falling by a final of 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  
• Designated hitter Robby Steves singled to right and advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Tristen Alvarez followed with a double to center to open the scoring.
• With the bases loaded and one out an inning later, Nick Dodd reached on a fielder's choice to plate FPU's second run of the afternoon, pushing the lead to 2-0.
• Dixie State starting pitcher Gabe Taylor helped his own cause with a three-run homer in the home half, giving the Trailblazers their first lead of the day.
• DSU added three more runs before the seventh inning, but the Sunbirds cut into the lead behind RBI singles from Ross Dodds and Eddie Sievers.
• Jagun Leavitt added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, singling to right to give the Trailblazers a 7-5 advantage.
• Tanner Howell finished off the save, preserving Taylor's third win of the season.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Sievers, Alvarez, Steves and Hunter Villanueva each extended their respective hitting streaks to five games.
• Sievers has now reached base in 15 straight games, the second-longest stretch of any Sunbird this season.
• Alvarez is now one hit shy of reaching 100 for his career.
• The Sunbirds are now 2-10 all-time in the state of Utah.    
 
ON DECK:
• The Sunbirds return to action on Thursday, when they host longtime rival California Baptist in the opener of the final home series of the season. First pitch from FPU Diamond is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
