Alvarez Leads All Scorers in Road Loss to Toros

CARSON, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team was tripped up on Friday evening, falling 87-70 at the hands of Cal State Dominguez Hills. The loss is just the second outside of league play for the Sunbirds, who drop to 6-3 on the year. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds struggled to find a consistent stroke in the first quarter, shooting just 5-of-18 while watching the Toros go up by as many as ten in the early going. 
• Bree Alvarez scored seven points in the first two and a half minutes of the second quarter to bring the Blue and Orange within five, and the two teams exchanged buckets for the duration of the half.  
• CSUDH' Destinee Williams went for ten points and five boards in the first half, while Ashley Cross scored the final six points of the second quarter to send FPU to the locker room with a 37-31 deficit at the intermission.    
• Rachel Berry converted an and-one to pull the Sunbirds within four with 3:29 to play in the third quarter, but the Toros countered with a 10-4 run to end the frame.    
• CSUDH put their foot on the gas over the final ten minutes, outscoring their guests 24-17 down the stretch to remain undefeated on their home floor this season.  
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Alvarez finished the night with a game-high 24 points, while Jessica Malazarte and Cassie Pisik gave the Sunbirds three players in double-figures. 
• Nautica Morrow led the Toros with 21 points, while Williams and Alzena Henry combined for 24 rebounds while tallying double-doubles. 
• Fresno Pacific lost the turnover battle for the first time this season, forcing 17 and committing a season-high 21.  
• FPU got to the free throw line 14 times, converting 12 of them for am 86% clip.

• The Sunbirds are now 5-2 this year when they hit five or more threes in a game.
