LAS VEGAS – The Fresno Pacific swimming and diving teams continued action at the UNLV Invite on Friday in Las Vegas. The Sunbirds had another strong showing against tough competition, as FPU totaled five NCAA B-cuts, one victory and numerous season bests at Buchanan Natatorium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Women
• The 200-medley relay of
Shelbi Hayzlett,
Olga Tovstogan,
Genesis Navarrete and
Arianne Kooijinga opened Friday night strong and went 1:45.73 for a season best.

Patricia Garrote and
Morgan Coddington made the C-Final in the 400 IM, with Garrote winning the heat at 4:32.15. Coddington followed at 4:36.92.
•
Cara Le had a strong prelim race in the 100 fly, swimming 57.78 which is fifth best in program history. She then went 58.07 in the finals.
• Tovstogan continued to lower her time in the 100 breast, as the sophomore touched at 1:02.09 to take third overall. The mark is fourth in D2 and an NCAA B-standard.
Mireya Ortega also raced in the C-Final and finished with a time of 1:06.78.
• Another highlight came from Kooijinga, who touched at 56.52 in the 100 back (17th) to win the C-Final. The time is tied for fourth all-time at FPU and an NCAA B-cut. Hayzlett followed in 21st at 58.06.
• The second day of racing was closed out by the 800-free relay going 7:45.20, which was started off by
Luisa Roderweis' opening split of 1:53.24 (B-cut).
Men
•
Iskender Baslakov,
Matheus Misquito,
Kyle Jones and
Dmitry Belolipetskiy went a season best in the 200-medley relay at 1:03.40 to open the finals for the 'Birds.
• FPU received a great swim from
Dylan Sewell in the 400 IM B-Final, as the freshman touched at 4:02.85 to win the heat and set a new lifetime best.
Christian Meyer swam the C-Final and finished second in the heat at 4:10.65.
• Belolipetskiy picked up an NCAA B-standard in the 100 fly and took seventh in the A-Final at 48.62, which is just off his PR.
•
Nathan Bruner won the C-Final in the 200 free at 1:42.31, while
Kyle Jones followed at 1:43.60.
• Baslakov picked up FPU's lone victory on the night, as the sophomore touched first in the 100 back at 47.15. The B-cut is also the top time in Division II so far in 2018-19.
BEYOND THE HEAT SHEET
• In the prelims, the Sunbirds totaled 27 season-best times and six lifetime best marks.
• The five B-standard marks for FPU pushed its total to 11 for the meet.
